Max began playing chess at the age of 10 years old, after being taught the rules by his sister, he developed a keen interest in the game and took to playing online chess to learn the game. While starting off slow, within a year he began one of the top players in his school and one year after that he won the primary school team’s championship in rapid and came second in the school blitz team championship. However, due to co-curricular constraints, Max stopped playing competitively in 2014 until 2018, when his love for chess was rekindled by the book “Tal-Botvinnik 1960”. Max now competes seldom in tournaments, and has a good laugh doing so. Max recognises Chess as an important tool for the development of lateral problem-solving skills and its ability to bring people from all walks of life together. He is particularly impressed by Chesslife’s ability to boost the popularity of chess within South Australia, which is something Max is interested in doing in the future.
