Interschool Chess Championships
Players compete against players from other schools.
Please find some information that may help you on the day.
- Do students compete as individuals or as part of a Primary School team? How are they selected to participate?
The tournament is an interschool championships based on individual year levels. This means that they play against students that are of the same year level. All students are welcome to participate as there will be so many students from the hills that there will be an opportunity for everyone to play at their own level. It is not a knock out event, which means that all students play all 7 rounds.
- What registration process is involved?
We have made an option available on our website for parents to register directly. They can either just register for the chess club at school or they can add a registration for the interschool chess championships
- What costs are involved and how is this paid?
The cost has remained the same from last year. It will be $20 per student (which can be paid directly with the registration).
- What is the schedule for the day? What time does it start and finish?
The day starts at 930 am and will finish around 2:30pm. Parents are able to drop students of earlier as we will be setting up as well as a slightly delayed pick as we will be packing up at the end.
- Who provides supervision of the students?
This depends from school to school. There are some schools that send a teacher along. There are some schools that work with a parent that takes on the supervision for the students and there are some schools where they leave responsibility with the parents. This means that some parents stay on site, while others just drop and run. Please let us know what you feel is appropriate for your school. Even though we all have DCSI clearances and RAN certificates, we will be quite busy on the day and will not be able to supervise individual students. We will have a sign in and sign out sheet and will not allow students to leave the premises alone.
- Who is responsible for transport to Lobethal Lutheran Church?
This depends from school to school. There are some schools that utilise the school bus and take the whole group. Some schools (which is the majority) will leave transport with the parents. As mentioned above, there is a sign in and out sheet on the day.
